In Review EU4 1.35 Retrospective

Greetings, EU4 Explorers! Over the past several months, we’ve seen Europa Universalis IV change considerably with the Domination expansion and the 1.35 ‘Ottomans’ update. According to the 1.35 Retrospective, the Paradox Tinto team has wrapped up their work on the project and is heading for a well-deserved break.

Patch Updates

Europa Universalis IV underwent substantial changes over the last few weeks, with the launch of the 1.35.4 patch on June 20th, which addressed several known issues, and two additional updates—1.35.5 and 1.35.6—on June 27th and July 4th, respectively. These updates brought a new level of stability to the game and finalized the lingering issues from the Domination expansion.

The Domination Expansion

The Domination expansion represented a vital stage in the EU4 1.35 Retrospective journey. According to the Paradox Tinto team, this project was an ambitious undertaking that took on developing several major powers in Europa Universalis IV at the same time, which had never been done before. Despite the enormous task, Domination added a ton of new content and has received generally positive feedback from the community.

Integrating New Content

The team’s primary goal was to blend new elements of the game with existing ones, to enrich gameplay for the most-loved in-game countries in the game. They remain committed to perfecting this balance, with plans to make the Domination DLC a must-have addition for all EU4 enthusiasts.

Looking Forward

Paradox Tinto has plans to further refine the game, already making a start with the History Lessons DLC, which allows players to dive into the rich histories of China and Japan.

Reliable Thoughts

As EU4 approaches its 10th anniversary, it’s amazing to see how the game continues to innovate while preserving its core gameplay mechanics.

Predicting future updates, I suggest we might see improvements in the game’s trade and colonization aspects. A more dynamic, player-driven trade system and a detailed colonization process that aligns with historical realities could be on the horizon.

Other Paradox games also pay a heavy focus on rulers as characters. I also predict further development of ruler-focused traits, to a lesser extent of Crusader Kings III, leading to more unique rulers and deeper strategic decision-making. Given the success of the History Lessons DLC, we might also see similar DLCs exploring the histories of other regions, offering players an educational aspect of their gameplay.

That concludes our EU4 1.35 Retrospective. I’m eagerly awaiting what the next chapter in the EU4 journey holds. Until then, happy conquering!
